Types of Coaching by Guntis

A person wants to grow professionally. This requires understanding and assessment of current situation, clarity of direction, awareness of different options. There is the need to take informed decisions and proceed with actions towards reaching the desired outcome.

Informed decisions are arrived at along with the formulation of how to proceed towards reaching the desired outcome.

This kind of coaching is often requested by people who want to improve awareness of their strengths and make use of them in order to bring a greater sense of self-fulfillment and achievement.

A person is facing challenges in his or her current position. There might be a need for developing new skills and competencies or there might be difficulties coping with the working environment such as challenges in communication with colleagues, managers, customers or clashing values and expectations. Coaching will help a person to assess situations, choose what to do next, take responsibility and proceed with action.

This is for people who are entrepreneurs or business owners, looking for ways to launch a new business, build a team, manage conflicts, grow and succeed. There is the need to assess different opportunities, identify risks and barriers, choose appropriate strategies and set priorities. The focus might move from the big picture to operational details, from business functionality to managing people, and vice versa.

A person is a business executive, manager, leader. Themes outlined by clients vary from dealing with specific challenges in everyday professional life to developing personal leadership skills and talents.

Since work and business is connected to everything else in life, any kind of coaching mentioned above may evolve into life coaching. It might start from a wish to find a healthier work-life balance, then move into exploration of what makes life meaningful. From exploration to new awareness. From awareness to different goals. From goals to action.

What Happens in a Coaching Session?

The coach addresses a theme proposed by a client. The coach listens, asks questions, reflects what the client is saying. He helps the client to build awareness about the current situation, gain clarity and find ways of how to proceed with actions. The coach leads the process towards the desired outcome outlined by the client.

Sessions are safe, structured and held with trust and confidentiality.

A typical coaching session is 60 minutes. Sessions take place as Zoom, MS Teams, or WhatsApp video calls. Guntis is running sessions in English, Russian, and Latvian.

The certified coach uses the GROW coaching model where GROW stands for Goal, current Reality, Options (or Obstacles), and Will (or Way forward). Tools and approaches like the Coaching Wheel, Disney Strategy, Stretched Goals and Design Thinking are often used in sessions.

Before You Choose Coaching

Coaching is not consulting – the coach will not act as an expert telling you what you should do; you will need to find your own answers with the guidance of your coach.

Coaching is not mentoring – the coach will not share his experience relevant to your theme; he will help you to explore your own experiences and let you act on your decisions and choices.

Coaching is not therapy – while therapy is often about re-living painful past and healing, coaching focuses on your actions and success in the future.

Now ask yourself these questions:

Am I looking towards the future rather than the past?

Would I share my thoughts, feelings, aspirations with my coach?

Do I believe I might have my own answers, my own solutions, my own ways of moving forward?

Am I willing to explore? Do I feel it is in my hands to shape my life?

Am I willing to take responsibility for it? Do I have a theme for my first coaching session?

Any ‘YES’  is a sign that you take the right direction approaching a coach.

Hourly fee for an individual session is 150 EUR.
